Research Finding: Virtual Training Supports Innovation During the Pandemic

When our newest research study was released a few weeks ago, the main factor I focused on in the results was the very surprising increase in organizational performance during 2020, as compared to studies from previous years.

It’s of course hard to know if the use of virtual project management strategies was the cause of this boost in performance. But one thing we can say for sure is that, for the organizations that scored as “high performers” in the study, a previous commitment to virtual training made their pandemic pivot to remote work much more seamless.

High performers were almost twice as likely as low performers to already have virtual training in place, and to continue with it as they went into lockdown.

This made them derive far more value from the training they offered, including the absolutely crucial areas of cybersecurity training, and training in virtual communication tools.

I’ll continue to feature specific findings from this study here on the PM College blog for the next few weeks. Next up: how virtual team practices made the difference for high performers.
